The breakfast and dinner. Location.
The restaurant and bedroom were cold. people wearing overcoats to dinner! Very ordinary bed and bathrooms for the money.

Honestly no reason to complain. Quirky and clean place with well-trained and very amiable staff at reception desk. New-fashioned and modest room, with central heating, a safe box, and multi-channel television...

The best thing about the Moulin de L'Abbaye was the location of the hotel by a lovely river in the very pretty town of Brantome. Our bedroom was very comfortable, it was in the house opposite the hotel, the furnishings were of very good quality and it was light and airy. The lounge was nicely furnished also. The staff were lovely.
I didn't like the new outside sitting area it was very drab and uninviting, maybe trying to be modern which did not suit the hotel. The dining room was also rather drab and unwelcoming and I was so cold throughout the meal that had to wear a jacket as did other lady diners. The meal itself was absolutely extortionately priced for what you got. I sent back my first course which wasn't cooked properly, our main course was just a few pieces of duck breast with a jus and three carrots and a small square of polenta, the dessert was better but just one small souffle with nothing else on the plate. None of the courses looked interesting and were not attractively arranged. The cheapest wine was 45 Euro and that wasn't any good, it was probably worth about 5. For a Relais and Chateaux Hotel the food was disgraceful and a tremendous disappointment because I had been wanting to come to this hotel for many years and it was a complete let down. We ate at another hotel in Brantome the next night called Le Charbonnel and it was superb, completely in a different league. We didn't bother to try the breakfast after the bad experience with the dinner so had to walk into town for it which we didn't really want to have to do.
